Citizen Charlie
Q |
Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. First time we met was at SOS festival last year. What has been happening in the band since? |
A |
We had the release of “Up Yours” in October and had a huge release gig in Oslo, followed by a lot of interviews for radio and the printed press. In addition we’ve done a few gigs around Oslo, but as England is our focus for the time being we have not prioritized gigging in Norway. From December through February I was busy working as the accreditation and accommodation coordinator for By:Larm, the biggest music industry get together in Norway (equivalent of SXSW ) Real Rock´n´roll huh;) |
Q |
You’re back in the UK! What do you enjoy most about touring? |
A |
Yeah we just got back, as we speak we’re waiting to do sound at the Full Moon Bar, Newcastle under Lyme (First gig of the tour) The best thing about touring is that from morning to night your only focus is the music. There’s only the five of us driving from town to town and whatever troubles we may have we leave at home, so it’s very care free. |
Q |
Does the UK hold a special place in your heart? And why. |
A |
Definitely. It’s our fourth time over here, and it feels like our second home. Everyone have been so welcoming, the reviews have been great, what more can you ask for except cash roling in;) |
Q |
What is your favourite song to perform live? |
A |
Cheater is so well received all over that it’s always a pleasure to play it even if it’s vocally demanding. But after we made the second I must say All in All, I just love the groove, the vibe and the attitude of the song. It makes me feel like a million bucks to play it! |
Q |
In 2008 you released yourself titled debut album, and now 3 years later we have your latest offering called “Up Yours”. What is the difference for you between the 2 albums? |
A |
I really hate trying to analyse myself or my music, just because I run on instinct rather than a balanced thought and therefore find it difficult, but at the top of my head the sound on the first album is a bit more punk, whereas “UP Yours” is smoother. Mostly due to the fact that my singing evolved immensely by touring between the two albums. |
Q |
What lyrical themes appear on the album? |
A |
As always, anger is my muse;) |
Q |
What kind of music is influencing you at the moment? |
A |
I’m one of those who get hung up, so for the time being I’m listening to an old Norwegian band called Dream Police. They were called the Norwegian Van Halen. Also my boyfriends band, Hayseed is coming out with a new album soon, so I spend a lot of time listening to their mixes and offer my opinion on different details. |
Q |
By the end of 2011, what do you hope to have achieved? |
A |
Still aiming for world domination and can’t really lower the bar;) |
Q |
Where do you see Citizen Charlie five years from now? |
A |
Hopefully we’re an established act with 6 albums out that travels all over the world making a proper living off of music:) |
Q |
After your UK tour, what’s next for you? |
A |
I’m having a few weeks off before I start writing for my third album. We’ll also do a few gigs here and there through the fall, before I start working with By:Larm again in December. Hopefully we’ll have a kickass third record ready for release in 2012J |
